Holy Week Worship

4/12/2017

Holy Week at Grace offers you many opportunities to worship our Lord as we follow the story of the last week of Jesus' life.

Maundy Thursday, April 13 at 7:00 p.m. - Holy Communion and Pastor Paul's sermon on what Jesus said and did for us at the Last Supper will be at the heart of our Maundy Thursday worship.

Good Friday, April 14 at 7:00 p.m. - "Cursed Be He" is our Good Friday worship.  In Galatians 3 the Apostle Paul declares that when Jesus was hung on the cross he took upon himself the curse for our sins.  This powerful service is filled with a series of dramatic readings on Jesus' sacrifice for us as well as music and prayer.

Easter Worship Sunday, April 16 - Come to hear and celebrate the best news the world has ever received- the tomb is empty, Jesus rose from the grave and he promises to raise us, too!

Sunrise Service, 6:30 a.m.- Come early to discover the empty tomb!  We begin the service in quiet and candlelight.  We celebrate with songs and praise, and take time to remember our baptism into Jesus' death and resurrection.  Hand bells will offer special music.

Traditional Worship, 8:00 a.m.- A service filled with beautiful Easter hymns, liturgy, remembrance of our baptisms, children's message and music by the Jubilation and Bell Choirs.

Celebration Service, 10:30 a.m.- The Praise Team leads us in this service of joyful celebration of the empty tomb.  Children's message and special music will also be a part of our Easter worship.

Invite your friends and bring your family to hear the resurrection story, and be filled with new life in Christ!

You are invited to see “Choices” on Sunday, March 19th

3/8/2017

Picture
Each year Grace Lutheran puts on an original play.  Our plays are rather silly and light-hearted, but they deal with serious and important biblical themes and teachings.

This year’s play “Choices” is about . . . well . . . it’s about making choices.  It’s about making good and godly choices in our lives.  The title sort of fits.

Using the stories of Adam and Eve (how to make bad choices), Jesus’ Temptation (how do choose for God in difficult times) and incidences from Jesus’ ministry our play illustrates how God and Jesus teach us how to make the right choices in our lives.

It’s not a boring play.  You’ll see a talking serpent (ala Genesis 2) and Jesus’ temptation as a TV game show (definitely not ala Luke 4), a show that includes a Mafia Hitman and a Roman Emperor.  We even have the Good Samaritan entering on a skateboard. Our cast of thirty eager actors and actresses are ready to put on our play for you.

The play will be performed at both the 8:00 and 10:30 a.m. worship services on Sunday, March 19th.  We hope you will join us for this fun and enlightening morning.

Grace’s 2017 Lenten Midweek Services - “Small Catechism, Big Lessons”

3/1/2017

2017 is the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther nailing the 95 Theses on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany - the beginning of the Protestant Reformation.  In honor of this anniversary our Lenten Wednesday worship services are designed around one of Luther’s most famous writings, Luther’s Small Catechism.  This small booklet was designed to help parents teach their children the basic beliefs of our Christian faith with simple explanations of the Ten Commandments, Apostles’ Creed, Lord’s Prayer and of our Lutheran sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion.

During Lent our 7:00 p.m. services, which will use the beautiful “Holden Evening Prayer”, will focus each week on one part of Luther’s Small Catechism and how it ties into the story of Jesus.

March 8 – The Ten Commandments – God’s laws on how to relate to him and to others are the basis of our lives.  Jesus’ ministry was built around how he taught the Ten Commandments, and God’s other laws, in deeper, more meaningful ways.  They guided Jesus’ ministry.

March 15 – The Apostles’ Creed – The Creed is nothing more than a brief summary of what we believe; an easy-to-remember Gospel in miniature.  The Second Article of the Creed focuses on who Jesus is and what he has done for us which is at the heart of Lent.

March 22 – The Lord’s Prayer – Jesus taught this prayer to his disciples.  It is the model of a perfect prayer as it calls upon us to focus, in prayer, on our relationship with our Heavenly Father, on our own faith, and on our relationships with others.  Luther called upon Christians to know this prayer, to say it daily and let it guide us on our journey of faith.

March 29 – Holy Baptism – Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist.  John’s gospel tells us Jesus even baptized others.  Baptism in Jesus’ name was the entry rite into the church for the first Christians and continues to be so today.  Luther explains to us what the water and God’s holy Word mean for us as followers of Jesus Christ.

April 5 – Holy Communion – On the last night of his life Jesus changed the ancient Jewish Passover meal.  He declared that the bread and wine shared at that meal were his body and blood.  The power of the sacrament of Holy Communion ties us intimately to our Lord Jesus.

Come and Celebrate Our Savior’s Birth!

12/1/2016

Picture
December brings Advent and Christmas, the seasons when Christians remember and give thanks for the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  This year we celebrate our first Advent and Christmas in our new church home.  The holiday decorations should be beautiful!

We have many special worship services this Christmas to help us honor Christ and hear the Good News of his birth.

On Christmas Eve, Saturday, December 24 there are three services.
  • The Children’s Candlelight worship is at 3:00 p.m.
  • The Celebration Christmas Eve worship is at 4:30 p.m.
  • The traditional Christmas Eve worship is at 6:30 p.m.

All of the services will include the beautiful candle lighting during the singing of “Silent Night”. Glow sticks will be available for small children to use during the candle lighting.

Christmas Day worship is at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 25.  This is a service full of music and celebration.  We will also receive Holy Communion.

There is one service on Sunday, January 1 at 10:00 a.m.  This worship will also be filled with the beautiful music of the holidays.

Please note that since Christmas Eve is on Saturday we will not have a Thursday evening worship service on December 22.

Come and worship our Lord Jesus this holiday season!
