We will have Food and Fellowship at 6pm before each Lenten service. Grace groups host by preparing and serving the meals. The menu is different each week. Peanut butter and jelly will be served each week also.
The groups use this meal as an opportunity to support their organizations activities and charitable causes. Watch for the donation baskets and what the donations will be used for. Please give what your able for their work.
Look for the sign-up sheets to donate beverages and desserts. Any questions or want to help? Contact Wendy Freeland at 262.707.9266. Mark your calendars for Sunday, September 10, as we celebrate Rally Sunday and God’s Work Our Hands Day. Here’s what you need to know:
All Grace members are encouraged to sign-up to help with one of our many service projects for the ELCA's annual "God's Work Our Hands" day on September 10th. We are joining our fellow Lutherans across the country in giving an afternoon to help others. We have a lot of opportunities for you to get involved. Several of them are "family friendly" where young children can be involved. Here is what we have: Milwaukee River Clean-Up: Last year high water kept us from doing a river clean-up, but we're going to try again this year by hauling debris out of the river along Lime Kiln Park. Wear close-toed shoes and shorts or a swimming suit. Bring some heavy-duty trash bags. Renovating the Nursery at All Peoples Church in Milwaukee: Volunteers will help with cleaning and painting to create a comfortable space for parents and young children. Blue Lotus Camp: This non-profit camp, serving those with disabilities, is only fifteen minutes from Grace. We need people to help with landscaping projects around the camp. Bike Ride for Outreach for Hope (on September 9): Raise money and get some exercise as you support this inner-city ministry of our Greater Milwaukee Synod. Gardening at the North Shore Academy of the Arts: We've done this in previous years as we help the NSAA (located in the old Grafton high school attached to the library) tidy up their garden area. Singing at Hamburg House in Grafton: Musician are needed to bring songs and joy to the residents of this group home. All ages can join in the singing. Cards and Crafts for Lasata: This is a great activity for families with young children! Helpers meet at church to make cards and decorations for the residents of the Lasata Care Center in Cedarburg. These gifts will be delivered at a later time. Ozaukee County Humane Society: Eight helpers are need for weeding and putting down mulch at the Humane Society's building in Saukville. A tour of the facility will follow. Feed Our Volunteers: We need a small group to help prepare the meal we will feed our workers before they head out. Sunday, September 10th is Rally Sunday at Grace. We will go back to our regular worship schedule of 8:00 and 10:30 a.m. with Christian Education at 9:15 a.m. Lunch for all our volunteers will be served at 11:30 a.m. and they will then go out to do their service projects. The Packers' game doesn't start until 3:25 p.m. so you will have lots of time to work! The sign-up sheets are located on tables in the gathering area. Please pick a project and get involved! The second session for those wishing to join our Grace Lutheran family will be held this Sunday, January 15th at 9:15 a.m. in the conference room off of the gathering area. Members of our staff and church council will share with those in the class some of the many ministries at Grace and how new members can get involved. If you wish to be part of this class just call the church office (377-4770).
We're all set for Operation Inasmuch on Sunday. We have about 140 Grace members who have signed up to help with one of our many projects that day.
The weather forecast is great and it should be a very productive and worthwhile afternoon of work and service in our communities. A Couple More Volunteers are Needed - All of our projects are filled but one. We still need two more volunteers to help do some yard work involving weeding and trimming some plants at the home of a local senior citizen. This job begins at 1:30 p.m. Please call the church office (377-4770) if you can help with this. Here's our schedule for the day. Worship for everyone at Grace is at 10:00 a.m. If you are volunteering you're welcome to wear your work clothes to church. It will be great to see so many people in worship ready for work. You can also change at church after worship. The meal for all of our volunteers will be served after worship. Once we're done eating the various work groups will get organized and then head out to their projects. When your group is done with your project you can head home. You don't need to come back to church. Photos: Make sure to take lots of photos of your work projects! We'd like to share what we did with the whole congregation. September 7th is approaching fast. This is the day when the people of Grace are getting out into our communities to serve others as part of Operation Inasmuch. We've had a great response so far with 120 Grace members volunteering to be involved. There are still some projects that need volunteers to make them happen. We need:
In addition we also need . . . (you can do these even if you're not here on September 7th):
Our Schedule for Sunday, September 7th 10:00 a.m. - Sunday morning worship service for all Grace members 11:00 a.m. - Lunch for all the Operation Inasmuch volunteers 12:00 noon - The various work groups head out to do their jobs Let's all do our part to make Operation Inasmuch a big success! On Sunday, September 7th, the members of Grace Lutheran Church are getting out into our communities for a day of service and helping others. This is part of Operation Inasmuch, a Christian program that helps churches help others. We have all kinds of activities planned for that day and are looking to get over 100 members of our church involved. These are great activities for our middle school students, high school students and their families. Among the projects for the day that would especially be worth your while are: The Milwaukee River Clean Up – We are looking for thirty volunteers to clean up three stretches of the river in Grafton. You’ll need to want to get a bit wet as you wade through the river hauling out trash. Free Car Wash at Grafton Elementary School – We’re going to be good neighbors by offering a free car wash to people driving by GES. Talent Show and Meal at the Grafton Senior Citizens Center – Do you have a talent, sing, dance or play an instrument? We’re looking for people to help entertain area seniors. You can sign up to be part of these are the other Operation Inasmuch projects for the day. The tables with all the information are in the gathering area at church. So get involved, help your community and serve the Lord by serving others. --Pastor Paul |
