Christmas Message |
|
A New Hope |
The "New Hope" is the plans we have, called the Gospel. It is a story of the life of Jesus. Listen to Pastor Heidi talk about our "New Hope".
|
|
The Force Awakens |
In the Gospel, Mary goes to visit her cousin, Elizabeth. Both are pregnant - Elizabeth with John the Baptist & Mary with Jesus. When she sees Elizabeth, Jesus leaps inside her womb. Like a woman feeling a child move for the first time, Jesus surprised the world. When the force of faith moves us, we are changed. The sermon will look at this story & tie it into the popular themes we see in Star Wars, too. The "Force" that the Jedi use is not unlike our connection to God & each other.
Come & celebrate this gift that was given to Mary & to the whole world as we prepare for Christ's birth! |

2nd Sunday of Advent:
|
On the Second Sunday in Advent we hear about John the Baptist. John's role was crucial to the story of Jesus. He was the herald who proclaimed Jesus' coming and he baptized him in the Jordan River. This week's sermon holds up the personality and message of John the Baptist as we continue our Advent journey preparing for Christ's coming.

1st Sunday of Advent:
|
Christians begin our church new year with Advent. Advent is the time to look back at the promises made long ago about Jesus' coming to earth. However, we begin our looking back by looking forward to that unknown time in the future when Christ will return, not as a baby in a manger but as the King of Heaven. In 1 Corinthians the Apostle Paul tells us of the power, hope & strength the Gospel of Jesus gives us. In Mark 13 Jesus tells his disciples about the importance of keeping awake & on watch for the unexpected coming of the one he calls "the Son of Man".

The Second Sunday in Advent -
|
As we make our way through Advent preparing for Christmas we need to be aware of how much of our Advent and Christmas story finds its scriptural basis in the Old Testament Prophet Isaiah. Isaiah's ancient words played a big part in helping early believers understand the role John the Baptist played in the story of Jesus. They also are a scriptural witness to the life and ministry of Jesus in Isaiah. This week's message focuses on how Isaiah's words help us to better understand what this season is all about.

The Message for the first Sunday of Advent |
We begin Advent, the time of looking back at Jesus' birth, by looking forward - forward to that unknown day in the future when we confess, "he will come again to judge the living and the dead". We believe that Jesus will come again. When don't know when this will happen or how it will happen. That is beyond our insight. But one thing we do know; when our Lord Jesus does return we need to be found living lives that are dedicated to him. This truth is at the heart of this week's message.

Pastor Heidi's Advent message |
We don't have to be perfect, to get the perfect gift from God

Focusing on the Right Thing |
This Sunday is the first Sunday in Advent. Our Christian tradition is to begin Advent not by looking backwards, but by looking forwards, forwards to our belief that Jesus will come again to the world as our King and Judge. My sermon this week looks at that promise and how we are to live in the here and now awaiting that unknown day of Christ's return.
