Luther 500:
|
Martin Luther lived life at a dizzying pace! He was busy all the time with enough duties and responsibilities, not to mention problems and headaches, to drive most of us crazy. Yet, in the midst of his unbelievable schedule, Luther always took time to pray. In fact, the busier he was, the more time he took to pray. He could not do the work he had to do without a solid prayer foundation. This week's message looks at Luther's prayer life, as well as Jesus', to show us the importance and power of prayer in our lives.

Luther 500: Free, Yet a Servant |
Besides being a priest, pastor, Bible scholar and reformer, Martin Luther was also a prolific writer. He penned numerous pamphlets and other works that were printed and spread all across Europe helping people to learn about him and the message he preached. In 1520 he wrote one such pamphlet called "On the Freedom of a Christian". In this he spelled out his gospel-based argument that through faith in Jesus all Christians are freed from the law and servitude to it, but at the same time all Christians are made servants to Christ and others. In my sermon this week I will highlight the main points of Luther's stance and point out what it means for our lives in the twenty-first century.

Luther 500: Rediscovering Grace |
This Sunday is the first one as we look at Luther's biblical rediscovery of the New Testament's teaching on how we are saved. In our modern world where so many people still think they need to "earn" their way into heaven, Luther's personal example and words are a powerful truth that needs to be heard and believed.
